5* Resilience

This book follows young Regina Shen, a Hispanic-Chinese, a Marginal girl in a very futuristic Richmond . . . California or Virginia? She lives in the swamps and whenever there is a huge storm that causes a flood, if the Marginals are not fully prepared (properly), they are swept out to sea. Yikes! Don’t get stuck on the lower parts of the swamps when a storm comes.

Mo-Mere (Ms. Seville) is Regina’s teacher, and was originally from the other side of the Wall. Regina looks up to Mo-Mere like another mother; she believes this is because Mo-Mere might be her donor mother, but that is not the case. Mo-Mere knows that Regina has potential to survive living on the other side of the Wall.
Rating: 5 of 5 Stars.
This book definitely got me hooked in Sci-Fi/Dystopia. I say it often, it really does take a good book to get me to like a specific genre. This book definitely did that for me. It is a good thing I was able to jump right into the next book in the series, I do not think I would have been able to cope without knowing what comes next.

Endurance 5* Review

So much happens as Regina tracks her way back across the country with the hopes of bartering for her sister. Realizations hit; reunions, as well as a much needed bed, appear. Regina has two agents/inspectors hot on her trail, and she does lose some friends along the way, as well sitting in a cell for a while. Sheesh! It almost feels like Regina cannot catch a break! A much needed break, at that! Demarco and Volpe are the ones after Regina, and they do catch up to her. But we all know Regina can get away, hopefully in one piece, if she can.

This was rather suspenseful; I was on the edge of my seat while I read this. Some questions still remained unanswered, but I am sure those will come in the next book. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to see Antarctica. Perhaps the Regina Shen book will be my way to travel there.

Defiance Review #3

Regina is caught between Rival Federation Agents. With this going on she is forced to flee to Alaska from Virginia. She is in pursuit of something worth enough to save her sister and gain her sister’s freedom.

This book in the series is so far my favorite. The characters are becoming a lot more developed. The storyline has become more detailed without being too much. The book is full of adventure. It is difficult to put into words how much the author has progressed in his writing skills. This book will take the reader to Regina’s land. It was really a great book.

This is a great series of books for people who like this genre. This book I give four out of five stars. There are a few curse words just to be warned but not many.

Good job to the author

Vigilance Review #3

Lance Erlick in his new book, “Regina Shen:  Vigilance” Book Two in the Regina Shen series published by Finlee Augare Books continues the adventure with Regina Shen.

“Regina Shen:  Vigilance” is loaded with twists and turns that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next. Get ready Mr. Erlick has given us a fast-paced thriller filled with action, and great suspense. I am so looking forward to the next book with Regina and the rest of this cast of characters.

Resilience Review

Set in the future, Erlick does a great job showing us a world that has been destroyed by climate change and greedy people. It was definitely not a place that I wanted to visit, but I was still intrigued by the world nevertheless. The only thing that I was confused about was how they reproduced, since it sounded like there weren’t many men or they were held captive. I didn’t quite follow and wished that was a little clearer, or I could have simply missed that explanation.

Our heroine, Regina Shen, is a very strong character that you want to root for throughout the entire story.

The plot flowed nicely and I read it all in one sitting as it kept me enthralled. I really enjoyed it and will definitely check out the rest of the series. There was a lot of tense areas in the book that left me gripping my kindle tightly.

Endurance Review #2

There are two bad guys that are chasing Regina Shen all across the country. Regina is not only on the run she is trying to catch and free her sister. Once again I think Mr. Erlick has given us a fast-paced thriller filled with lots of action and suspense. “Regina Shen:  Endurance” is loaded with twists and turns that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next. I recommend that you go to the bathroom, take the phone off the hook and make a big bowl of popcorn because once you get started reading you will not want to put this book down until you actually finish. I am so looking forward to the next book to see where Mr. Erlick will take these characters.

Defiance Review #3

Does anyone remember the old “Fugitive” TV Series with David Jansen? Every week Richard Kimball was on the run as he searched for the one-armed man and it was a very exciting series. I think Mr. Erlick has given us a fast-paced thriller filled with lots of action and suspense and has re-created the tension that was the magic of that old show. The World Federation is chasing Regina all the way to Alaska because of her DNA. In the meantime Regina is trying to track down her sister.  “Regina Shen:  Defiance” is loaded with twists and turns that will leave you guessing all the while you are flipping pages to find out what happens next. I am so looking forward to the next book to see where Mr. Erlick will take these characters.

Vigilance Review #2

This second installment was just as good as the first. Though the pacing wasn’t as fast as the first, I was still sucked into this crafty world of mystery.

I was glad a love interest appear, though I wasn’t too keen on her at first, she did grow on me and but I’m still not sure about her. I had high hopes for Wendy, but that dream was crushed. In all, I did like the new characters that appeared and I was surprised by the actions of some of the old.

This is a hard world that Lance Erlick has created, but a fascinating one. I loved the world building and the structure. There were clean explanations and I wasn’t left confused as I was in reading the first. Though as I said the pacing was slow, the rhythm was spot on and in truth I liked the ease of this read. It gave me more time to dive deeper into this world that Regina has learned to survive in.

Regina is quickly becoming a fav of mine. Strong, smart and determined. She’s going to be great, no great is the right word. Regina is going to be a legend, and I can’t wait to read more about her.

I highly recommend this book, this series. It has quickly become one of my favs and I can’t wait to dive into the next book. Take a chance you will not be disappointed.

Happy Reading

Resilience 5* Review #2

I couldn’t put this fast-paced book down! The best way I can describe it is kind of like Hunger Games combined with Their Eyes Were Watching God, with a little sci fi thrown in. Great characters with strong personalities, descriptions that put the reader into the swamps with the main character Regina, and enough danger to get your blood pumping. It’s probably one of the best books I’ve read in 2015! Highly recommended!

Endurance Review

This installment had me consumed. I couldn’t put it down.

The track across the wasteland to save her sister, her resolve to never back down has my heart in knots. Regina has turned into the hero I have always dreamed of. She knows her goal, her mission and she will let nothing stop her.

During her track, she meets with new friends, old friends and foes alike.

She is faced with some very real and difficult choices, some I don’t know if I could make. This set her apart and makes this story exhilarating. I’m invested in not only Regina but in this world that Lance Erlick has created. The world building is like noting I have read this year. Descriptive, lush and creative. Mr. Erlick has a way of showing you the world that has gone to hell and making you feel for that dying world in a way that makes my heart ache. He takes time with each character, making them memorable.

This fourth installment is by far my fav and I can’t wait to read more. I have to know, no, I need to know.

As I have said for the other three books, I highly recommend this series. This is a hidden gem, you will not be disappointed.

Happy Reading

Defiance Review

There’s way more going on in this book. Regina is still on the run, but now she must travel the waste land that once was earth to get to her sister. The mother appears again, as mysterious as always, so I’m still on the fence about her. I feel like she should be doing more for her daughters.

We get a deeper look into this world and the way that it ticks. There were some clues as to the menlessness (I’m pretty sure I just made that word up, but you know what I mean :b), but not enough for me to figure it out. As much as a world full of women is intriguing, I got to know what happened to the men and if there are any left. So many mysteries.

Oh why the cliff hanger? My heart is racing and I need to know what happens. I hate cliff changers, but lucky for me I have the fourth book that I can’t wait to get going.

As I have said before, take a change on this series, it’s a rich world full of action, mystery and darkness. It will have you and the edge of you seat and wanting more.

Happy Reading

Vigilance Review

Regina Shen is pursued by the notorious Department of Antiquities for her unique DNA. She jumps the Barrier Wall into the Federation to find her kidnapped sister. Stuck on a heavily-guarded closed university campus, she must use her wits to escape and rescue her sister without letting either of two rival Antiquities inspectors capture her.
The second book in the Regina Shen series is even more exciting than the first! Regina has grown so much as a person. She’s strong-willed, independent, and pretty awesome. The lore behind the story was great too. I never knew what to expect while reading.
